Black Lives Matter.

Jazz is an art-form which was gifted to the world by African Americans, emerging from the blues in the context of the brutal history of slavery and racism in America. Structures of racism strongly persist in US and British society, continuing to impose violence, discrimination, and socio-economic disadvantage against people of colour. I am privileged to be able to play and benefit from the art-forms of jazz, blues, and rock and roll, and I want to use this privilege to help redress the racism in our society and particularly in the music industry. This is why I have committed to pass on 5% of all my performance fees to the organisation Black Lives in Music, who work with over 50 partner organisations in their campaign ‘to create a truly inclusive and diverse music industry’.
